WATER THAT REMEMBERS

EDITORIAL SHEET

living water! vol. 4 Sales and wells in Jesús and es Puig d'en Valls

EDICIONS AÏLLADES, 2026

This fourth volume of the series living water! comes like a last breath of old air, a closing that completes the circle started years ago in Sant Carles, Saint Eularia and Saint Gertrude. With it, a project that he wanted to rescue is closed, from the word and the popular view, the water heritage of the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu: their wells, your sources, your sales, its paths and the memory of those who made them possible.

The book, written by Josep Joan i Marí, Pep Xomeu, and accompanied by photographs of Ramon Mayol,, maintains the essence that has defined the entire collection: a non-scientific approach, but deeply rooted in the territory, built from direct observation, field work and dialogue with neighbors. There are no technical maps or hydrogeological analyzes here; there are voices, there are memories, There are descriptions in verse that turn each pou into a small stage where the life of yesteryear still resonates..

The author goes through the seven sells of Jesus and it is Puig d'en Valls, stopping at every well, on each edge, in every buried spike, in every vestige that modernity has been displacing. The tone is linear, clear and narrative, but always impregnated with a sensitivity that vindicates the need to preserve what for generations was essential for the survival of the houses, animals and crops. In one of the fragments of the document, the author remembers:

“We have to preserve our, in our culture, it's our customs, not lose our roots."

The volume thus becomes a field chronicle, a leisurely walk through a territory that has changed rapidly, but where it is still possible to find wells that resist, some restored, others abandoned, others become silent witnesses of an agricultural past that the island almost no longer remembers.

The audiovisual complement: memory in motion

As in the three previous volumes, Eivisual producer, and in parallel, accompanies the book with an audiovisual documentary that expands and enriches the experience. Neighbors appear in it, direct testimonies and voices that knew these wells when they were still essential: to water, to cattle cattle, to supply the houses that did not have a cistern. The images, landscapes and interviews turn the project into a living archive, where the written word and the spoken word intertwine to preserve a legacy that, without initiatives like this, would run the risk of disappearing.

A luminous closure for a necessary series

This fourth volume not only completes the collection: raises it. Summarizes the spirit of living water! and projects it into the future, remembering that the island's water heritage is not only a set of ancient structures, but an essential part of their cultural identity. With his literary gaze, its popular tone and its desire to preserve, this book becomes a tribute to the earth, to the people and the shared memory.
