LANUEVA FARSA DE BERNAT JOAN

Editions Isoladas publishes Four Ibiza prints, by Bernat Joan, the volume 6 from the fARSA collection of theatrical texts.

Edicions Isoladas presents Quatre Ibiza prints, Bernat Joan's new book, which is incorporated as volume 6 from the fARSA theatrical collection. The work confirms the literary maturity of an author with a long and decisive career in the culture of the Balearic Islands., and offers a living portrait, ironic and deeply human of Ibizan society through four scenes full of rhythm and ingenuity.

The piece opens with the voice of the Harlequin, that reminds the public that theater is a space of freedom and critical perspective. From there, the four prints —Ahmed (to galleys), someone's children, Who is more stupid y To marry the pig— display a theatrical universe that combines humor, memory and social satire.

The first scene addresses the persecution of the Moriscos and inquisitorial violence; the second ironically portrays the noble pretensions and the invention of lineages; the third explores the coded language of the Ibizan countryside, where each expression hides an implicit meaning; and the fourth features a hilarious scene about customs and taxes, with a peasant girl who disguises a pig to avoid having her pockets emptied.

With lively and direct writing, Bernat Joan constructs a text that recovers Ibizan speech with precision and affection, and that turns small local stories into a universal look at identity, survival and the ability to laugh at yourself. The work culminates with a Dionysian festival that celebrates the community, the language and vitality of popular theater.
