INTERVIEW WITH IDOIA FRADEJAS

Which authors were influential in the development of your writing?

The influences change too much and that is wonderful ... Right now I find myself reading to Irene Vallejo and his literary and historical essays, which bring me closer to my roots and my desire to continue growing. I always reread to Luna Miguel, Benjamin Prado, Alejandra Pizarnik, Pedro Salinas, Cristina Peri Rossi, Gordon E. McNeer… Pero, above all, to some of the great friends I have encountered on this path: Byron ramirez, who just took out Adamar (Poiesis Editores); Ronald Bonilla, poet and editor of this same Costa Rican publishing house; to Fernando Valverde, reference person and essential for me; to my very young companion Cristina Angelica with his V Valparaíso Prize for Poetry, My home is a moving box. I also read many fragments via the web, ya sea Instagram o Issuu, which allows me to always discover new and fresh voices.

  1. In your new collection of poems edited by Valparaíso Ediciones, you take us through the landscape that seems to be woven from silence as the title indicates. Tell us about the meaning that silence has for you.

It is important to know how to be silent, alone, hear yourself inside, be understood, know what the body and mind need, take care. es, definitely, the way.

  1. en 2018 you won the III Valparaíso Poetry Prize, 2018 with your work "We will be sea, blue, Liberty" tell us a little about your experience and how the collection of poems was built.

This shot came straight. And a sunflower grew. I introduced myself, if I'm honest, the last day and at the last minute, I remember perfectly: I came from class and I remembered seeing a Post about the award, I thought I had no chance, but I wanted to be read. ¿Ego? Search for understanding? who knows. I compiled as I could and in a hurry in a very cutro .pdf all the poems that I thought appropriate. The title was also a crush; a verse that I had written long ago and erased. I made sense of it again. I sent that document to the publisher and waited and waited and waited so long that I completely forgot the resolution.

One night, months later, already in december, I received an unknown call at 10pm, something unusual considering that nobody calls and at that time the telemarketers I hope they are resting. The jury has determined that your work is the winner, Do you accept the award? I had no better answer than a It's a prank?, which made everyone present laugh and they passed the phone one by one to greet me and congratulate me. That night i didn't sleep. We were later working on the search for a cover, I bastante quisquillosa, I admit it, but I wanted him to fully identify with what was between the pages. For me, They are a great and distant family to whom I thank every second of their work and company.

After that, everything was arising: Presentaciones, book signatures, messages of support, interviews ... I would never have imagined. Now, I can say that I have achieved what I always wanted, of course, and much more. Literature brings you surprise after surprise… That's why I always encourage anyone to be a part of it., either reading, writing, interpreting, translating ... To embrace all of the books (Irene Vallejo. The invention of books in the ancient world. Siruela, 2020).

  1. How does heartbreak influence your collection of poems "The voices that are silent"? And how do you connect the idea of island and landscape that appears so much?

I wanted to leave behind. That is life, ¿no? Renewed or die, typical.
The fact is that I wanted to forget an idealized relationship that did not bring absolutely anything good and was taking my breath away. Fortunately, now someone gave it back to me and stronger than ever. Sometimes things must break / in order for the wishes / we’ve longed for the most
/ to come true
(Orion Carloto. Flux. Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2017). Changes are necessary, and I was looking for something in landscapes that I needed to recognize in myself: the calm. One mistake leads to another / then to the hit; I left written on the page 19. I was trying to figure out myself and what really made me be, I looked around my surroundings and a lonely island reminded me that we are all we want. I bet on the air charged with silence, through a sea of doubts and uninhabitable planets. Dreams do not rest ... That is why now you have the opportunity to read them and know a little more closely what is around me.

  1. What were the most beautiful comments and appreciations you received for your book?

I've seen people cry for a chance to talk to me, Isn't that nice?
I recognize myself in each of the shy glances that come close to dedicating his books, in all the curious smiles seeking advice and opinion, in the attentive ears that ask to be able to chat for a little while, in the fearful hands that believe they are incapable of reaching where I am. I see myself and I think that where I am is simply by his side, with open arms to help you on this arduous path. Because it can, although it costs and there is so much, so much competition nowadays, It can. And when they arrive, I'll be waiting with some cookies and a fresh coffee, like many other people did to me.

I think the important thing is not that people comment on your work, but keep growing and climbing step by step by your side.

  1. What would you like someone who read your book to keep?

With the frankness with which I always try to face my days. Simply that. And let each one make their own interpretations, that there lies the magic.

  1. Are you thinking of a new book or artistic literary project?

Of course. And I could almost swear it's the best I've written so far. I would like to invest more hours to expand, make changes, correct ... but I don't have much time right now. I finished the course I was taking a week ago and I start working (books don't feed tummies, just brains ...), but you see that I rest little. There is always room for more letters. Although it is also true that I would like to first expand this, make presentations and be able to go a little further ... Where, also without a doubt, you will be very invited.
