FREE CULTURE IN STATE CAN JERONI
The Can Jeroni Cultural Center, in Sant Josep de sa watchtower, hosts the presentation of the book Jaron Rowan, Free culture of the State (Edit. Dream Traffickers, 2016). The act takes place on Thursday, 12 April at 20:00 hours and presented by the Ministry of Culture of the Balearic Government, Fanny Tur.
The work shares some questions and reflections on the role of culture in a political moment as frenetic as it is uncertain.. Can the cultural effervescence that was generated around 15M be translated into a new institutional framework? Can free culture inform public policies? Should you do it? Cultural policies are in a difficult situation: They have to be able to account for the change that is sweeping society and make room for new practices and ways of life..
Citizens are demanding more and more open institutions, transparent and accessible. From different places the limited field of the culture sector is overflowing, demanding new modalities of dialogue with administrations. From autonomous spheres and from critical practices, new ways of understanding what a common culture could be are pointed out.. And yet the new parties seem to feel uncomfortable, overwhelmed with culture management. Is it possible to think about cultural policies of a materialist nature and with a vocation for transformation?? Can the public accept and cohabit with the common? Does it make sense to consider a state-free culture??
