In this interview we met with the editor Miquel Costa and with the bookseller and collaborator Vicent Marí to learn more about the history of the house at its distribution point: the Mediterrània bookstore.

INTERVIEW WITH JOSÉ M: How did you get into the publishing world??

Michael Costa: For circumstances. I was out of work, I entered and I liked. First I was with a partner and, From the 1995, I've been alone.

Vicent Marine: I was working on the publisher between the 2009 y el 2015. Then I kept the library alone.

P: How old is the publisher??

MC: It was founded on the 1991 as Editorial Mediterrània. Then the regulations forced us to change it to the name of now four or five years ago.

P: Does the publisher publish only in the Pitiusas??

MC: Only in Ibiza and Formentera.

The editor Miquel Costa reads one of his latest books.

P: How many books Miquel Costa Editor have published?

MC: 310, more or less.

P: with how many authors?

MC: There are some from outside, But almost all local and always with issues related to Ibiza and Formentera. There have been between 40 y 50.

P: What have been the best-selling books??

MC: ‘Green songs and dirty strings’ and 'San Antonio de Portmany. Notes for the story '. The two are from Marian Torres. Of ‘Green songs and dirty stribs’ Two editions were made: one from 800 and another of 500. Of 'San Antonio de Portmany. Notes for the story’ They were made 1400 copies.

P: What is the language of publication?

MC: We only publish in Catalan, What is our language and we believe that it is the one who needs it the most. Catalan and Ibizan are intrinsic and what interests us is that the book is well written.

Vicent Marí orders some editorial books.

P: What has been your experience with subsidies?

MC: Catalan is the least subsidized language of the State and the world in editorial issue by far. I have had very few, But I have had book sales agreements to institutions. Sometimes, The Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics or the Council have set some subsidized line, But I don't complain about anything. Having the fiscal residence in Ibiza, Ibiza City Council has helped a lot, But those of Sant Antoni and Sant Josep have also collaborated.

P: What relationship do you have with digitalization?

MC: I have not dedicated myself or want to dedicate myself.

VM: For years it is said that the digital book will replace paper and experience is that people make the two. Digital reading and paper reading and the line to follow is to continue editing on paper.

P: Do you read Ibiza and Formentera??

MC: Yes, If we compare a boy from 14 years of my time and one of the present, The one now reads a barbarity. We would all like people to read more, But it reads much more. There is no comparison point. You just need to look at the shelves of the houses now and those of 50 O 70 years.

VM: There is a lot of editorial offer and a lot of variety. Reading is our daily bread. Today there are so many things to choose from that you can choose without complications.

P: What are the future prospects?

MC: There will be changes next year, that we will announce them at the time. The editorial will continue and continue to draw the same as so far.
