Alejandro Palomas Nadal Prize

Presentation of "One Love" by Alejandro Palomas in Ibiza

Edicións Aïllades attended the presentation of the novel "A Love" Alejandro Palomas, Nadal prize 2018. The presentation, that took place at the Sa Cultural bookstore in Ibiza, it was a success, made us laugh and feel.

Peter and Alexander at Sa Cultural Ibiza

bookseller and writer, word to word.

His work has been translated into eight languages. Alejandro likes small bookstores and he specifically likes the Sa Cultural bookstore and one of his Pedro booksellers., who accompanies you in the presentation. Alejandro Palomas says that Pedro is a reference to know if his works are going to go well. He comes to Ibiza for him, believes that "our house is where our booksellers are".

He says that "he takes a lot of risks because he writes what he wants". And he admits that writing wears him out a lot but that he no longer knows how to do anything other than write as a livelihood. He has written novels that he has thrown away from beginning to end and leaving no memories, He says if you're not sure then bring trouble, throw away what you don't like, you don't care.

According to the author, writers are afraid of poverty, and this fear leads to many mistakes. “You are not essential as a mechanic”. This comment from Alejandro made me return to the questions: What does the phrase "humans not live by bread alone" mean?? Is art a social necessity?? and the literature? A car is not essential either...

Alejandro gives himself totally to his novels, does not conceive of writing as a trade, "there is no middle ground, you expose yourself a lot to others”, but he likes vulnerability, the fragility, that's how he writes and that's how he does well.

"When I fit in is when I don't fit in". "In my books there is a plexus, there are viscera… when you make a presentation of your work, yes no it gives a plus to the novela, for me it is a failure… there has to be a link with the public”.

He made us laugh a lot with his anecdotes and habits, like he reads books to the page 32 and if you don't like them, literally, throws them out the window. He has a recurring nightmare and it is that other people throw his books out of the window.

Alejandro Palomas, from weakness to strength

Although there were also moments of the presentation in which his words could be defined as heartbreaking:

"If I die tomorrow, I'll go quietly because I've emptied myself... The prize isn't really important to me, but it has been to my mother.", the award makes me fit in and I don't like it but for the first time I have seen my mother proud of her because they congratulate her and it is the most beautiful thing about this award, It's such a beautiful turn of fate. My mother is albino and has suffered a lot since she was little.". “My mother has changed her volume in the world”. “It is incredible how fiction touches up reality”.
