THEATER VISITS TO THE NECROPOLIS OF PUIG DES MOLINS
Throughout the year 2022, one Sunday of each month at 12 there will be a theatrical visit to the necropolis of Puig des Molins, in Ibiza.
The Puig des Molins necropolis is the largest and best preserved in the world, and during ancient times it was the city cemetery. The necropolis is located 500 meters from the Puig de Vila, place where the city is located since its foundation at the hands of the Phoenicians in the seventh century to. c.
The name of the necropolis comes from the mills that were on the top from the 15th century, and of which only a few remain, disused. The cemetery founded by the Phoenicians occupied a certain area on the hillside, in the lower part, and it grew significantly in parallel with the development that the city experienced in Phoenician and Roman hands.. The land was later used to grow olive trees., almond trees, fig trees, etc., along with the use of mills.

Today, That same slope is part of the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera.. If we only count the tombs from the Punic era, there are some 3000, although the entire labyrinth is only visible from the outside 340, most of them also belonging to that time. Nevertheless, Only the so-called “mule hypogeums” are visited., found accidentally in 1946.
The dramatized visits offered to this necropolis are an original way to discover in an entertaining and fun way the secrets of this part of the city's cultural and historical heritage.. This activity brings us closer to the past of Ibiza through representations of the funerary rites carried out by Phoenicians., Punics and Romans, intertwining with other characters linked to the Puig des Molins necropolis.
This month of January, The visit can be carried out on the day 30 at 12h. The activity is completely free, although it is necessary to make a reservation in advance. For more information you can consult the cultural agenda of the Ajuntament d'Eivissa on the official website.
