INTERVIEW WITH RAMON MAYOL (2ª parte)

This article includes the second part of the interview with Ramon Mayol for his new book ‘Offers inside‘.

The presentation poster in Santa Eulària.

P: On the back cover of the book is: «Ramon Mayol moves to the paper the essence of his island». Normally, when something similar is affirmed it is to show the time of ago 50 O 60 years. Nevertheless, Most of the stories are set in the present day.. Because?

RM: It is the essence of my Ibiza, that is not the same as the one that another person has. In my opinion, we must give value to all these traditions, But they have to innovate on many occasions to adapt to the new reality and have continuity.

P: Almost all your stories talk about the clash between tradition and modernity. Do you think we don't know how to reconcile the two points?

RM: I don't know if anyone knows. It bothers me that the traditions are as something folk and that you have to go to a museum to know how the oil or lime was done. I am a lover of customs and a good example is ‘RESONDORS’, which are the songs of several generations sung from the present. I would like to do it with literature.

P: What do Marga Guasch illustrations contribute to the book?

RM: They give it a very important energy because they stir the comfortable way of living in which we are. I could have made a story about the killings and include more traditional drawings, But it would have been different.

P: The prologue is in charge of Teresa Navarro, A editorial collaborator. Do you think you also clarify your stories?

RM: She has found aspects that I had not seen. She is a literature professor and expert in female literature. I am very grateful for the prologue and I think she has a future as a writer although she has only published A book as coordinator.

his unwavering faith in God and the numerous trips that brought him into contact with diverse cultures and to settle in Santa Eulària
