THE WRITER JAVIER MARÍAS DIES
The novelist, translator, professor, columnist, and academic of the language Javier Marías died in Madrid last 11 from September to 70 years due to bilateral pneumonia that had kept him in hospital for a month. By wish of his family, his remains will be cremated, in privacy and without wake.

Great enthusiast of Anglo-Saxon culture, the author made multiple transcriptions of works in English. This activity led him to receive the National Translation Award in 1979 for his version of 'Tristram Shandy', de Laurence Sterne. Likewise, He taught literature and translation classes at the University of Oxford., from Wellesley College and the Complutense University of Madrid.
All this activity led the Royal Spanish Academy to award Javier Marías the 'R' chair.’ en 2006 and that he was named knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France. He was recently recognized as an international member of the Royal Society of Literature from Great Britain, being the first author in Spanish to achieve it. Nevertheless, He never received the Nobel Prize for Literature, despite being a serious contender in recent years.
