THE LANGUAGE OF THE WAVES IN FORMENTERA

Ramon Mayol's waves arrive in Formentera

EDICIONS AÏLLADES, independent label with a Balearic vocation and deeply rooted in the Pitiusas, presents in Formentera, El Thursday 9 de abril, The second edition de The language of waves and other stories, de Ramon Mayol,. The book, that revisits and reorders the materials of his first volume of stories, VINTIDOTZE, It now arrives in a renewed edition that consolidates the author's career within the contemporary short narrative of the archipelago..

The act, organized by the Santa Maria Festivities Committee, will feature the participation of the poet Neus Costa Mayans, that will offer a personal and sensitive reading of the work, establishing bridges between memory, territory and the critical gaze that goes through the stories.

The language of waves and other stories confirms Ramon Mayol as a narrator with natural instinct, capable of combining irony, tenderness and denunciation with fresh and musical prose. As Josep Maria Nadal Suau points out in the prologue, Mayol stands out for “the brutal intuition to finish the stories”, giving each story a final twist that not only surprises, but it resignifies everything read.

Its characters—fragile, worthy, bewildered—inhabit an Ibiza that oscillates between memory and wound, between nature and speculative pressure, between myth and everyday reality.

The photographs of Joaquim Seguí

The volume incorporates the photographer's images JOAQUIM SEGUÍ, that provides its own visual universe, of great poetic power and symbolic depth. As Jorge Morales highlights in the photographic prologue, Seguí's strength lies in “his poetic gaze and his ethical positioning”, capable of converting each image into a space of resistance, contemplation and narrative intensity.

Balearic

The Wieser publishing house published the book 'Balearic' in a volume that is part of the 'Europa Erlesen' collection ('select Europe'), that disseminates the culture of different European regions to the German-speaking public through texts by different writers. 'Whale' (with an initial run of 25.000 copies) is the book dedicated to customs, traditions and reality of the Balearic archipelago.

The anthology collects the stories 'Com un llum’ and 'The language of ones', signed by Mayol, that provide a personal look at the traditions and realities of the archipelago.

The philologist Marcela Friederichs will be in charge of the presentation of this book.
